SUMMARY:Fortunes Made and Lost: A Walking Tour of Wall Street's Greatest Crashes
DESCRIPTION:On June 14\, 2026\, Cornell Real Estate Council Women invites you to tour the historic blocks of Lower Manhattan on foot\, where you’ll discover the booms\, busts\, and scandals that have shaped American finance. The walking tour will take about 2 hours\, followed by lunch with our guide. \nLed by Richard Warshauer of Colliers International\, this engaging walking tour brings to life the drama of Wall Street’s most significant crashes. From the 1920 Morgan Bank explosion to the 1929 Great Crash\, the rise and fall of Drexel Burnham Lambert\, and the collapse of Lehman Brothers\, each stop links a notable building to the influential figures and major events behind it. \nThe tour begins at Alexander Hamilton’s Old Custom House at Bowling Green and includes 12 stops across Lower Manhattan. You’ll pass the original New York Stock Exchange\, Goldman Sachs’ historic headquarters\, and walk through Hanover Square. \nThroughout the tour\, you’ll hear stories about figures like Ivan Boesky\, Michael Milken\, and Carl Icahn. You’ll understand why Joe Kennedy’s shoeshine man is important\, what the 1987 crash teaches us 39 years later\, and how 70 Pine Street transformed from a dream into a disaster and then back again. \n  \nDate: Sunday\, June 14\, 2026 | 10:00 AM \nMeeting Point: Alexander Hamilton US Custom House\, One Bowling Green \nTour Leader: Richard M. Warshauer\, Colliers International \nPrice: $25 per person \n  \nThis event is hosted by CREC Women and is open to everyone. If you have any questions\, please contact our co-chairs\, Kamilla Rodrigues (krodrigues@herrick.com) and Carolyn Pianin (cpianin@pianinadvisory.com). \nIf there is rain on June 14th\, CREC Women will reschedule our walking tour to June 20\, 2026. \n  \nAbout CREC Women \nThe mission of CREC Women is to provide a support network for female current students and alumnae interested or working in the field of real estate\, which historically has been under-represented by women in positions of leadership. To accomplish our mission\, we deliver programs throughout the year virtually and in person focused on the unique challenges that women face within our industry. Those programs include on-campus advisory sessions\, networking events among our members\, and meetings with women’s organizations outside Cornell offering prospects for both employment and business. \nIf you are interested in being part of CREC Women\, or would like to stay updated on events\, please update your Cornell Real Estate Council Profile here.

SUMMARY:Symposium: Spatial Structure and Travel Patterns of the Post-Pandemic City
DESCRIPTION:Event Abstract\nThe data is in: The COVID-19 pandemic has triggered an increase in work-from-home and both commercial and residential relocation away from the city center\, matched with a reduction in work-based travel.  But is this change temporary or long-term?  Did the internet just need the pandemic to bring about a demise of central cities?  Or will travel behavior and location choices revert to how it was before the pandemic?  What are the net impacts and how should planners respond? \nDuring this symposium\, scholars will present their research on employee and employer outlooks regarding the future of work-from-home\, and on inter- and intra-metropolitan relocation patterns of firms and households.  Keynote speaker Genevieve Giuliano will then position the pandemic in the evolutionary history of cities’ spatial structures and travel patterns.  All scholars will then participate in a roundtable discussion about what we can infer from current and past research about the future of the transportation-land use relationship in the post-pandemic world\, and how planners and policymakers should consider this. \nSymposium organized by Strauch Fellow Zakhary Mallett.  \n\nSchedule\n\n\n\n8:30 a.m.\nContinental Breakfast Reception\n\n\n9:15 a.m.\nOpening Comments\n\n\n9:30 a.m.\nPanel 1: The Present and Future of Work-from-Home\n\n\n10:15 a.m.\nIntersession Break\n\n\n10:30 a.m.\nPanel 2: Pandemic-Induced Household and Commercial Relocation Patterns\n\n\n11:30 a.m.\nLunch\n\n\n12:20 p.m.\nKeynote Talk and Roundtable Discussion\n\n\n2 p.m.\nEvent Close\n\n\n\nCOSPONSORED BY ILR SCHOOL\, PAUL RUBACHA DEPARTMENT OF REAL ESTATE\, CORNELL REAL ESTATE COUNCIL\, CORNELL PROGRAM IN INFRASTRUCTURE POLICY\, AND CORNELL SYSTEMS ENGINEERING.
